Incessant rain damages raw bricks in Siraha

Siraha, April 17

Raw bricks worth millions of rupees have been destroyed due to continuous rainfall in Siraha lately.

According to Brick Kiln Federation Siraha District Chairperson Bikram Sah, who is also the owner of Shree Sag Brick Kiln of Golbazaar Municipality; three lakh of the total five lakh raw bricks at his industry were damaged due to the rain.

Similarly, around two lakh raw bricks ready for baking were destroyed at Sagun Brick Industry, another brick kiln based in Golbazaar.

“This is the main season for making bricks, and as we’ve received rainfall almost every day for the past few weeks, it has caused a huge loss to entrepreneurs,” said BKF Siraha district treasurer Ram Sagun Yadav, adding there are a total of 65 brick kilns in the district and almost all kilns have borne loss due to the rain.

Further, Yadav put the total loss caused by rainfall at about 20 million rupees.

“We pay a huge amount in revenue to the government every year but the government has done little for the safety of our business,” he lamented.
