KATHMANDU: According to the Ministry of Health and Population, bird flu also known as avian influenza (H5N1 influenza) claims human life for the first time in Nepal.
Health ministry today confirmed that the death of a 21-year-old boy from Kavre on March 29 was caused by bird flu.
Health officials suspecting bird flu as the cause of death had sent his specimen to Japan for the test. The results of the test which came on April 30 was found to be H5N1 influenza positive.
An outbreak of bird flu was witnessed in Nepal from early March this year.
The flu which has already affected poultry and bird population in Nepal has caused a first recorded human causality in the country.
