17 workers trapped inside hydel project tunnel rescued

Dhading, June 21

Seventeen workers, who were trapped inside the tunnel of under-construction Rashuwagadi Hydro Project at Tatopani of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa, were rescued this morning.

Eleven Nepali and six Chinese labourers were trapped inside the tunnel at 8:30 pm, yesterday night following a landslide.

Rasuwa DSP Bhogendra Prasad Dhakal said all the 17 labourers, who got trapped inside the tunnel of the hydro project, were rescued after 12 hours.

The workers were trapped after the landslide obstructed the tunnel passage as they were working
inside.

A team of 38 security personnel from Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police were deployed at the incident site for the rescue operation.

Rasuwa Chief District Officer Arjun Bhandari said rescue operation started at 5:00 am today as rescue attempts last night were not possible due to poor visibility.

“Security personnel rescued trapped labourers with the support of Chinese technicians,” said CDO Bhandari.

Health check-up of the workers was conducted following their rescue. “They have not suffered any injuries and their health condition is normal,” said Bhandari.
