President stresses Chure protection

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari today expressed concern about unchecked erosion of the Chure range. She stressed the need to control erosion of the Chure range through afforestation.

Addressing an event organised to mark the diamond jubilee of the establishment of Shree Janata Secondary School in Dakneswori Municipality of Saptari, President Bhandari stressed the need to check erosion of the Chure range by planting tree saplings.

“Since erosion of the Chure range will have adverse impacts on the environment such as drying up of water sources, its protection through afforestation should be accorded top priority,” she said. The president asked the government to initiate effective measures for the protection of the Chure range.

Bhandari said illiteracy has to be eliminated from the country by focusing on technical and professional education. She asked the school management to come up with projects and plans for the betterment of the school. “I am emotionally attached to the school. Therefore, I am ready to contribute for the betterment of the school,” she said.

At the programme, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Upendra Yadav said the country’s prosperity was not possible without women’s education. He stressed the need of sound coordination among the three tiers of government for the prosperity of the country.

Province 2 Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut said his government had brought ‘Save Girl, Educate Girl’ campaign to stop violence against women and to empower girls and women.
