The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority arrested three persons for possessing a cache of undeclared money from Bhaktapur, yesterday.
The arrested have been identified as Prakash Adhikari, chief of Water Resource and Irrigation Development Division Office, Dolakha; Bhogendra Sah, an engineer at Water Resource and Irrigation Development Division Office, Sindhupalchowk, and driver Suman Khakda.
Adhikari is also a senior divisional engineer.
A special team deployed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had arrested Adhikari, Khadka and Sah from Jagati of Bhaktapur with the suspicious illegal money while they were on their way to Kathmandu yesterday evening.
Spokesperson for the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Pradip Kumar Koirala said that Adhikari was arrested with undeclared money amounting to Rs 1,338,000 and Sah with Rs 130,000. The anti-graft body had nabbed Adhikari and Sah on the basis of a tipoff that they were heading for Kathmandu with illegitimately obtained money, collected from service seekers. The CIAA has initiated a probe.
Police also seized the Toyota Hilux vehicle they were traveling in. They have been kept at CIAA Office, Tangal, for further investigation.
