India thrash Nepal

KATHMANDU: India defeated Nepal 8-0 in the final of the SAFF U-15 Championship at the Kalyani Stadium in West Bengal on Saturday as the hosts ended the successful campaign without conceding a single goal.

Sridarth Nongmeikapam scored a hat-trick, while Maheson Singh Tongbram, Aman Deep, Sibajit Singh Leimapokpam and Himanshu Jangra netted one each for the home team who claimed the trophy for the third time.

Nepal had opened the campaign with a 5-0 loss at the hands of India before beating Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bhutan to make it to the final, while India thrashed Bhutan 7-0 and defeated Sri Lanka 5-0 in the group stage matches.

This is the third time Nepal lost to India in final in six appearances after 2013 and 2017.
