Nawalpur, August 3
Nawalpur’s Devchuli Municipality has recently adopted a policy requiring those on the municipality’s payroll to deposit 10 per cent of their income in their parents’ bank accounts.
As per the policy passed by the fourth municipal assembly, all local representatives, employees and teachers who receive their salaries from the municipality must deposit 10 per cent of their salaries in their parents’ account and submit the voucher of the amount deposited as proof to the municipality.
The executive committee of the municipality passed the policy following due consultation with local representatives and staffers.
As per a notice issued by the municipality, the new policy has been enforced since the beginning of the current fiscal.
“The policy is meant to fulfil social responsibility to our parents. We have initiated the drive of social responsibility from those receiving salary from the municipality,” said Chief Administrative Officer Bishnu Prasad Bhusal, adding that the names of those who thus allocate a fixed amount for their parents will be published in the municipality notice board and local newspapers.
Mayor Purna Kumar Shrestha hoped the policy would make everyone realise their moral duty towards their parents and motivate others to follow suit.
The municipality has 30 local representatives, 119 employees and 245 teachers.
All of them will participate in implementation of the policy.
Total Rs 161.8 million is spent for their salary every year, of which Rs 16.1 million will be deposited in their parents’ accounts.
“We’re planning to bring private companies under this policy and have written to Chaudhary Industrial Village about it. There are around 2,000 workers in the village who receive over Rs 50 million every month as salary,” according to the mayor.
