Ensuring rights of people, a challenge: CM Rai

Province 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai today said ensuring rights of the people guaranteed by the constitution was a challenge facing the country.

Addressing a programme organised to mark the Constitution Day at Martyrs’ Stadium in Biratnagar, CM Rai stressed the need to translate the rights of the people guaranteed by the constitution into practice. “A statute does not get implemented on its own. Policies, rules, plans and culture help to translate constitution into practice,” he said. Rai said provincial government was working to implement the statute.

National flags were hoisted at all district headquarters of the province and places of special significance, according to CM Rai. “People have been carrying national flags to mark the Constitution Day today. This suggests that discrimination among people in Nepalis was a thing of the past”, he said. CM Rai said huge participation of people to celebrate the Constitution Day sent the message that national unity was strong and powerful. He claimed that three tiers of the government did not have dispute and confusion in terms of governance.

People of various ethnic communities had performed jhankis (entertainment shows) while students, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepali Army conducted a march-past during the programme. At the function, three persons were felicitated. Writer of national anthem Pradip Kumar Rai, Kamirita Sherpa, who scaled the Mount Everest for 24 times and runner Rai were felicitated. They were handed over five lakh rupee each, with appreciation letters. A rally was taken out before it converged into a mass meet at Martyrs’ Stadium.
