The patients got nothing except beds with mosquito nets free of cost. A relative of a patient, Sita Guragain of Dailekh said she was paying all the expenses, except the bed charge, for her relative’s treatment in Bheri Hospital. “Though it is said the government is providing free treatment to dengue patients, I have been paying for everything except the bed,” she said, adding she has been buying even cetamol tablets.

Focal person for the dengue test kit Durga Gautam of Banke Health Office said they were confused as the health department had not issued clear instruction. “We are confused as to the service to be provided to patients as there is no clear direction for the same,” she added. Gautam said mosquito nets and beds were provided free of cost to dengue patients.

As many as 27 dengue patients are receiving treatment in the health facilities of Banke. According to Gautam, 11 dengue infected patients are receiving treatment in Bheri Hospital, 11 in Nepalgunj Medical College and Teaching Hospital, Kohalpur; and five in Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital, Nepalgunj.

Dengue virus was found among 48 patients who reached different health facilities of Banke for treatment. Of them, 20 were from Banke, nine from Bardiya, seven from Kailali, five from Surkhet, two each from Kalikot and Salyan and one each from Rukum, Dang and Dailekh. Banke Health Office informed that one patient of Bardiya had succumbed to the disease.
