Damauli, September 29
Senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel today warned the NC would launch an agitation across the country if the government did not stop its hooliganism.
Issuing a press statement protesting Nepal Communist Party (NCP) cadres’ act of preventing NC leader Minendra Rijal from laying the foundation stone for the building of Rising Rural Municipality, Tanahun, today, Paudel warned of launching strong protest programmes across the country.
The press statement reads that time has come to hit the streets to save democracy.
Senior leader Paudel has urged all and sundry to take to the streets as NCP cadres are trying to gag people’s right to freedom of speech.
In the press statement, Paudel condemned the NCP cadres’ act of stopping NC leaders, including Minendra Rijal, on the way while they were headed for laying the foundation stone for the building of the rural municipality.
NCP Rising Village Committee had called a bandh in the rural municipality after a dispute broke out over the centre of the rural municipality.
NCP cadres had blocked NC leaders as the foundation stone laying programme was scheduled unilaterally without their support.
NCP cadres had locked all eight wards of the rural municipality and hoisted a black flag at the site where the new building of the rural municipality was to be constructed.
Rural Municipality Chair Rajendra Shrestha said that Rijal laid the foundation stone of the rural municipality’s building in the evening.
He said that it was wrong to protest as the building was scheduled to be constructed at a place convenient for majority of people.
