Candidates in final phase of campaign

Rajbiraj, November 25

As the by-election for the post of ward chairperson in Saptari’s Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality-7 draws near, political parties have intensified campaigning. The election is scheduled for coming Saturday.

The ward has a total of 1,403 voters and the parties contesting here have made it a point to reach each and every household to canvass before the 72-hour silent period kicks in.

Seven candidates are trying their luck for the post of the ward here.

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal candidate Prabhakar Yadav had been elected from the ward in the last election. The post fell vacant and is up for grabs now after Yadav was elected as chief of the District Coordination Committee.

This time, RJP-N has fielded its formerly elected candidate’s wife Pramila Devi. She has support of Samajbadhi Party-Nepal as well. While RJP-N faces a tough task to eke out victory this time as well, NCP (NCP) candidate Achchhelal Yadav is seen as a strong contender from here.

Achchhelal is the same candidate who had lost to Prabhakar Yadav by a slim margin of just eight votes in the last election. As many see his chances of winning as high, RJP-N has been making all-out effort to secure victory, as its presidium member coordinator Rajendra Mahato and general secretary Manish Suman have also addressed the election campaign here.

Nepali Congress and Janamat Party have fielded Shiva Narayan Mandal and Dinesh Kumar Yadav respectively to contest here. Yadav is also seen a strong contender here, as he represents the party led by CK Raut.
