Hamid meets President Bhandari

Kathmandu, November 13

Visiting President of Bangladesh Mohammad Abdul Hamid held a meeting with President Bidhya Devi Bhandari this evening.

Hamid, who arrived in Kathmandu yesterday on a four-day official goodwill visit at Bhandari’s invitation, met Bhandari at the latter’s office in Shital Niwas in Kathmandu.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various matters related to bilateral relations.

“The two leaders discussed how to further boost friendly relations between the two countries,” the Office of the President said in a statement.

Following the meeting, Hamid attended a banquet hosted by Bhandari in his honour at Hotel Yak and Yeti.

Earlier in the day, Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepal Communist Party Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsena called on Hamid at Hotel Marriot, Naxal, where Hamid is staying.

During the meeting, Pun and Hamid discussed various aspects of Nepal-Bangladesh relations, according to Pun’s Secretariat.

During the Oli-Hamid meet, Oli sought Bangladesh’s support to attract Bangladeshi investors in Nepal, especially in the hydropower sector.

Oli was of the view that such investment could play an important role in addressing the chronic power shortage in Bangladesh through power trading between the two countries.

In his reply, Hamid assured Bangladeshi support for Nepal’s goal of Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’. The two also discussed other matters such as tourism and bilateral trade promotion, according to officials present in the meeting.

Oli was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and other leaders.

In his meeting with Dahal, Hamid praised Dahal as a beautiful leader for the latter’s contribution to Nepal’s peace process.

Dahal said he had always wanted to share his experiences from leading the people’s war to leading the government with Bangladeshi leaders, according to Dahal’s secretariat.

Dahal was accompanied by Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth and other NCP leaders.

Similarly, Deuba extended his warm welcome to Hamid.

“We discussed ways to further boost bilateral relations,” Deuba said in a Twitter post. “I wish him a happy stay in Nepal.”

Hamid will visit Pokhara tomorrow, where he will visit various tourist spots and meet Bangladeshi nationals based in Nepal.

He will return to Kathmandu the same evening.

Before leaving for Dhaka on Friday, Hamid will also visit Chandragiri Hills.
