Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today said Nepalis had to develop the country on their own.

Addressing the 25th convocation ceremony of Kathmandu University in Kavre’s Dhulikhel, PM Oli, who is also the chancellor of the university, reiterated that no foreigners would contribute to the development of Nepal.

No one else will provide security, usher in development, prosperity, modernity, equality, good governance and happiness for the people and the country, Oli stated. He held that his government was working to make the country developed and prosperous.

He said that the country’s future was bright. “Country’s present is successful while its future is bright. We have the capacity to move ahead to accomplish our goals and realise our vision,” he noted.

Oli said the government had accorded top priority to development and prosperity of the nation. He argued that education would help to remove disparity and gender inequality. He expressed happiness over the fact that 54 per cent of the total students who graduated from the varsity were females. “I am elated that number of graduate girls has increased,” he said.

Oli advised the graduates of KU to move ahead with confidence and enthusiasm in their careers and life.

At the programme, India’s Manipal University Chief K Ramnarayan said significant progress had been made in collaboration with KU in the field of medical science.

KU Vice-chancellor Professor Ramkanth Makaju stressed on the need to bring about changes in the education system to make it more relevant, skill-oriented and qualitative. “The education we provide should give a perspective to the students to see opportunities and challenges,” he added.

Prime Minister Oli handed over a gold medal to Bibek Poudel of Lumbini Medical College for securing the highest percentage (79.67) in MBBS examinations.

As many as 1,604 MBBS and MD students under the faculty of medicine graduated from the university.
