Treatment of sickle cell anaemia starts

Dhangadi, November  29

Kanchanpur-based Mahakali Hospital has started service to treat sickle cell anemia.

“With the installation of required equipment and training for staffers, we started service for the treatment of sickle cell anemia yesterday,” said the hospital’s information officer Keshavdatta Awasthi, adding, “The hospital has provided treatment to two sickle cell patients in two days.”

The treatment service has brought cheers to the locals here, who otherwise had no option than to make a long journey to Kailali’s Dhangadi or other places outside the district

The Sudurpashchim Province government had allocated Rs five million for the procurement of necessary equipment to launch the new treatment service. The federal government has pledged to provide 100,000 rupees to each of the sickle cell patients.

Many people had lost their lives to the disease in Kanchanpur for want of treatment in the district itself.

According to data provided by Kailali’s Seti Zonal Hospital, some 270 sickle cell patients of Kanchanpur have been receiving treatment at the hospital.
