DHANKUTA, JANUARY 11
Netra Bahadur Kaduwal of Chhatharjorpati Rural Municipality, Dhankuta, called journalists in the hospital and sought justice after police thrashed him indiscriminately for no reason.
Police at Madi Police Post had beaten the 41-year-old Kaduwal as he was heading towards Madi Municipality of Sankhuwasabha to meet his ill mother. He said the police beat him black and blue without any reason.
He has been living in the rural municipality for the past 11 years. Kaduwal said four police personnel had beaten him indiscriminately on January 7 at 08:00pm.
He said he received injuries on the chest and head, among other body parts, and was undergoing treatment in Dhankuta hospital.
He added that police took him to Chainpur Area Police Office the same night.
Baduwal said Madi Mangalbare Police Post Incharge Naresh Acharya, head constable Leknath Regmi and two others beat him under the influence of alcohol. Achayra did not respond to request for comment, despite being contacted frequently.
A doctor at the hospital said Kaduwal was out of danger. Family members had taken him to the hospital.
Kadwal’s sister said police did not register a case.
