Security tightened at border points in Banke

NEPALGUNJ, JANUARY 16

District Administration Office, Banke, has tightened security to prevent the possible spread of bird flu in Banke.

The DAO took the decision after bird flu was found in different states of India.

The DAO has banned import of birds and poultry-related items from India. It was, however, found that poultry items were brought illegally taking advantage of the open border.

Banke Chief District Officer Ram Bahadur Kurumbang said that officials and security personnel have been kept on high alert to control the spread of bird flu in the border areas. He said that bird flu had become a big problem in the bordering cities of India.

CDO Kurumbang said that chickens and poultry items were smuggled from India even though security was tightened at the border.

According to the DAO, security personnel have been deployed at the main entry points. Police patrolling has been intensified at the border areas after it was found that chickens were smuggled through illegal border points.

Banke APF SP Ashok Bam said that supporting units had been directed to stop the import of poultry items. He said police had seized such items time and again at the border.

Chicken Entrepreneurs Association, Banke, Chairman Lal Bahadur Khatri said that the association had urged the administration make necessary arrangements to prevent possible spread of bird flu. He said the risk of bird flu spread was very high as illegal supply of poultry items from India had continued unabated. Khatri said that DAO and DPO were urged to stop the smuggling of poultry items from India.

The government has banned import of birds and bird related items from India for some years now.
