As part of the Government of Nepal and international partners’
‘Green, Resilient and Inclusive Development (GRID)’ approach, Ministry of
Foreign
Affairs of Finland (MFA), European Union and German Federal Ministry
for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ) are kick-starting the a
new project to balance agriculture with the environment.
Called ‘Green Resilient Agricultural Productive Ecosystems (GRAPE) in Nepal’, the €12.35 million project aims to foster climate
resilience and green economic growth in 20 districts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Its core mission is adapting Nepal’s
agricultural practices to climate change, by identifying innovative approaches for
water-efficient products and empowering target groups to incorporate
them. Socially disadvantaged groups and women in particular are at particular
advantage from better connections to value chains.
The project is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, cooperating closely with International
Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) as well as the Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE). Ministry of
Land Management Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation (MoLCPA) is the
lead ministry.
