POKHARA: A local boarding School in Pokhara has been fined Rs 50,000 for allegedly dumping waste into Kali River near Pokhara-20, on Saturday.
The news came to fore after a local spotted a tipper disposing of waste into the river system. Subsequently, a meeting between the local representatives, locals and civil society decided to take action against the school.
Ratna Man Gurung, the school owner, has accepted dumping waste into the stream during the meeting with the representatives.
Sim Gurung, Ward Chair of Pokhara-20 said, “The school has been fined as per the existing Waste Management Act 2011.”
Meanwhile, the school has been asked to clean the waste and warned not to carry such acts in the future, Ward Chair Gurung shared.
Ram Bahadur Paudel, pioneer of the extended clean-up campaign, said, “All should join hands to make Pokhara Metropolis a model city.”
Literally, educational institutions play a significant leadership role in clean-up campaigns although the school’s act of dumping city waste into the village river system was a shameful act, Paudel lamented.
