Nepal Law Campus to enrol only 300 students in LLB

Kathmandu, November 25

Nepal Law Campus has decided to enrol only 300 students in its Bachelor of Law (LLB) programme from this academic session.

Issuing a notice for the entrance examination of LLB, the college stated that students would be admitted on merit basis from this year onwards.

“We have been given only 300 seats. We have decided to enrol only 300 students as per the instructions given by Tribhuvan University Executive Council,” said DN Parajuli, campus chief of Nepal Law Campus.

From among the 300 seats, 240 students will be selected through free competition while 60 seats have been reserved for women,  indigenous nationalities, Madhesi, Dalits, people with disabilities, people from marginalised communities, Muslim, Tharu and others.

“We have recommended that there should be limited seats for law campuses to ensure quality education. A decision to this effect was taken at a joint meeting of the faculty board and campus heads considering the poor infrastructure of the colleges and limited number of teachers,” said Professor Bijay Singh Sijapati, Dean, Faculty of Law, Tribhuvan University.

Citing lack of infrastructure and insufficient number of teachers, the campus had decided to admit only 800 students in  the programme last year. But the students had protested the decision. The Supreme Court had then issued an interim order to allocate seats for law course and select students on merit basis through entrance examination. It is not only Nepal Law Campus for which limited seats have been allocated.

Tribhuvan University has allocated limited seats for six other campuses that offer course in law. A total of 250 seats have been allocated for Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara, and 200 seats each for Mahendra Multiple Campus, Dharan and Nepalgunj, Butwal Multiple Campus, Butwal, Mahendra Bindeshwari Multiple Campus, Rajbiraj and Harikhetan Multiple Campus, Birgunj.

Last year, in October, about 12,000 students were enrolled in LLB programme.
