Elderly woman who lived in streets for 22yrs rescued in Kanchanpur

DHANGADHI: A 75-year-old woman who had been living in the streets of Mahendranagar was rescued on Monday.

Dhauli Damai of Bhimdutta Municipality-18, who had been living in the streets for 22 years after the death of her husband, was rescued by Drishti Foundation, Nepal yesterday.

The foundation, established on 2074 BS in Budhhachok of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City in Kailali, had been rescuing the abandoned and elderly people that had been forced into the streets.

“The foundation itself takes care of the rescued people,” informed Kalpana Bhatta, Chair of the foundation.

The foundation is currently taking care of 40 abandoned and elderly people rescued from the streets. It also performs the last rites of the abandoned elderlies and provides shelter to women that have nowhere to go.

After hearing the news of the elderly woman struggling to live out in the streets in the winter, we came all the way from Kailali to rescue her, added Chair Bhatta.

Although it is the duty of the government to rescue the people abandoned in the streets, we have been trying to fulfil that duty and taking care of them as our own parents in the lack of which, Bhatta added.

Currently, the foundation is rescuing the elderlies from Kailali and its neighbouring districts.

Dhauli Damai expressed her happiness after being rescued and for not having to livthe harsh cold.
